Leuven

It was a beautiful Sunday morning to wake up to today, with a bright sun streaming through our living room window and a fresh mountain-like coolness in the air. It's one of the nice things about leaving summer behind and a precursor to what's hopefully another mild winter. After mulling over what to make of the day we decided to head south to Leuven in Belgium, a place that looked promising and neither of us had been to ever. It's in the Brussels neighborhood, which meant a three-hour ride easily - good thing we've gotten used to these kinds of drives at this point. Let's say we were making up for not doing anything last weekend as well, and with the weather becoming more and more unpredictable as we go into winter it was an opportunity we couldn't pass up.
First stop in sunny Leuven was lunch, which was a filling but forgettable bowl of Spaghetti Bolognese at Brasserie Norte Dame Quasimodo on the Grote Markt. Sitting close to the very busy toilet doors wasn't quite the atmosphere we were looking for so after quickly wolfing the food all down to the last morsel, we walked next door to the town's crown jewel, the Stadhuis, for a free tour that took us up, down, and all around the 15th-century town hall. A quick look around St Peter's Church followed and afterwards our day in Leuven was over - we were off on our three-hour ride back to normal life in Amsterdam where the sun went hiding as usual. It was a nice, fast trip to Belgium that, despite the Max Verstappen wanna-be's on the Belgian highway, made it another productive, satisfying weekend.
