To the sound of Madonna’s heart-thumping Open Your Heart we started our road trip to Bremen in Germany at the eager hour of 6 this morning. We planned this a couple of weeks back after hearing from a former Europe- now Asia-based friend that he was going to be in Berlin for a week - coupled with a partner who likes going on long drives, and it was a weekend made in schnitzel heaven. We opted to meet halfway and settled on Bremen that, without stops, was 3.5 hours away. I’d never been to Bremen but if TripAdvisor’s to be believed it looks like a nice enough city to spend some quality time with a friend that’s been there for me in so many ways. As we drove along the still-empty highway Madonna’s song was the perfect complement to a promising start to the weekend. Let the drive begin.
