The Dorint

There’s a faded glory to Bremen’s only five-star hotel that’s yearning to be resurrected. Checking in at half past 9 was a success - we were able to get a room even though check-in wasn’t until 12 - and from the front entrance to the lobby to the hallway leading to our room there were signs that this place was something else sometime back. Our room was spacious with a large balcony facing the huge green park behind the hotel, decorated in a grand hotel kind of way but with some slightly tacky accents here and there. It felt like it can’t make up its mind if it wants to be a grand dame property or a business and conference hotel. With its stunning location in Bürgerpark and in front of a man-made lake it cut a legendary figure from all sides, though the fading carpet, cheap-looking artworks, bad paint job, and musty smell all give its lack of a budget on full display. There’s a lot of potential in the old girl.
